Huangshan pairs one of China’s celebrated mountain landscapes with the villages of historic Huizhou. On Mount Huangshan, granite ridges and wind-shaped pines create a changing scene as cloud moves through the valleys.
Below the mountain, Hongcun and Xidi reveal a different world of lanes, water systems and richly detailed houses. Use Huangshan city as the wider destination, with separate time for the mountain and the villages. A mountain overnight allows a less hurried walk and an early start when conditions are favourable.
