Yandangshan.

Towering volcanic rock formations, forested valleys and dramatic eastern Zhejiang scenery.

Discover
Yandangshan

Yandangshan is a mountain landscape of sharp pinnacles, cliffs and green valleys near the Zhejiang coast. The area is renowned for landforms shaped by ancient volcanic activity, yet each valley has a different scale and mood.

A first visit can focus on the Lingfeng and Lingyan areas, where the formations are close enough to appreciate on foot. With more time, add a quieter valley and let the changing light shape the day rather than trying to fit every scenic area into one circuit.

Volcanic rock & changing perspectives

Yandang’s cliffs and pinnacles create a landscape of shifting silhouettes. Lingfeng and Lingyan are distinct areas; select walking routes that reveal their differences rather than repeating similar viewpoint stops.

Dalongqiu waterfall

The tall waterfall and its valley provide a different scenic focus. Water volume changes with rainfall and season, making the valley a different experience from one visit to the next.

A landscape for slower looking

Literary associations and temple settings can deepen the visit, while short walks suit those who prefer scenery without a major summit climb. Travellers drawn to the stories of Hanshan and Shide can continue to Tiantai, a separate destination on eastern Zhejiang’s literary and Buddhist routes.

Time well spent.

2 days · the principal scenic areas

Group nearby sections and give the waterfall a considered visit.

3 days · a quieter mountain stay

Add easier walks and flexibility for rain or mist.

At the local table

Southern-Zhejiang cooking and seasonal produce suit a rural stay; coastal seafood is an option depending on the chosen base.

Choosing your base

A scenic-area base reduces driving between selected valleys. Check the actual walking surfaces and access for the traveller.

A geological perspective.

Yandangshan

Yandangshan

Volcanic rocks form narrow peaks, split ridges and waterfall cliffs. Lingyan’s temple landscape offers a quieter way to connect the shapes with generations of visitors.

The recognised geopark is Yandangshan; it is not on the World Heritage List. The different scenic areas require their own visit planning.
