Keep the two settings distinct
Use the first day for a manageable wall walk and the riverside district. On the second, let the mausoleum approach determine the pace, with time to discuss how paths, sculpture and setting work together.
Connect Nanjing’s Ming city wall and Qinhuai riverside with a separate day at Ming Xiaoling, allowing time for the wooded approach and stone figures.
The city wall introduces imperial Nanjing at an urban scale; Ming Xiaoling turns the story towards landscape, ceremony and remembrance. Giving the mausoleum its own day allows the wooded approach and stone figures to become a visit in their own right. The Qinhuai district provides a change of pace, rather than another monument to hurry through.

The mausoleum grounds require a substantial walk even before optional nearby visits. A departure should leave room for lunch, the exit and transfer; extra museums or another Purple Mountain attraction need additional time.
Explore each day and swipe through the places along the way.
Begin the two-day comparison with the Ming capital’s urban setting. Walk a selected wall section and discuss its relationship to the city, then change pace with lunch and a Qinhuai riverside walk. Keep the evening easy before the next day’s longer walk through Ming Xiaoling’s wooded grounds.
